2014 NYC HOLIDAY WINDOW DISPLAYS
If you’re in New York City this holiday season, some must-see cheer can be found in the intricate windows of Manhattan’s department stores. Each store creates a new theme every year, so you won’t see the same thing twice. It’s worth fighting the crowds to see these magnificent works of art in person. Here’s a peek at some of 2014’s best windows!
This year, Barney’s windows were designed by Baz Luhrmann and Catherine Martin, the couple behind Moulin Rouge and last year’s The Great Gatsby. One window features a real ice rink, and a few times a day, performers skate inside.
Bloomingdale’s created interactive windows with online and social media activities. They also have NYC-themed windows, with one depicting the Times Square ball drop. (Yes, it really moves!)
At Lord & Taylor, each window is a glimpse into an enchanted mansion that’s come to life for the holidays. This year, they’re celebrating the flagship location’s 100th anniversary.
And finally, the store that started it all: Macy’s! The flagship location at Herald Square features an imaginative space theme, where a little boy experiences Christmas on other planets by looking through a telescope.
