HITCH FILMING LOCATIONS

On the NYC TV & Movie Tour, see all the great sites featured in Hitch, the 2005 box office success, staring Will Smith. Will Smith plays the role of Alex “Hitch” Hitchens, a professional “date doctor,” who coaches men like Albert Brennaman (Kevin James) on how to get and have the perfect date with the women of their dreams. However, Hitch finds himself falling in love with Sara Melas (Eva Mendes), a gossip columnist who is determined to ruin Hitch’s career, and his love methods are ironically not working for him.

Flatiron District

Don’t forget to bring your camera on the NYC TV & Movie Tour to capture all the amazing sightseeing you will be doing! Make sure you take a picture of the Flatiron Building, NY’s oldest skyscraper and most photographed building in the Big Apple, which was used in many shots in the film, Hitch. The Flatiron Building is an easily recognizable symbol of the city, famous for its odd architecture, resembling a clothing iron.  It is an extremely popular spot for tourist photographs and is frequently seen on commercials and documentaries.  Yet, it is most famous for its appearance in the opening credits of The Late Show with David Letterman. The northern tip of the Flatiron Building is Madison Square, home to Madison Square Park, a perfect place to relax.  And, while you’re at it, why not stop by Shake Shack, famous for their milkshakes and burgers!

See the Toy Center South, the headquarters of NY Evening Standard (a fictional newspaper), where Sara works as a journalist. She is also seen exiting the subway station picking up a newspaper at the newsstand outside the Toy Center South. The Toy Center is home to the largest permanent display of children’s entertainment and seasonal products in the world. In Big, Josh, played by Tom Hanks, worked at the Toy Center as well.

Downtown

Take a break at Rice to Riches, the only shop in the world that sells rice pudding! In Hitch, Sara (Eva Mendes) goes there with her friend Casey right after her disastrous date with Hitch. Rice to Riches is located in NY’s trendy Nolita (North of Little Italy), serving the trendiest pudding dishes to all of Manhattan. Nolita was once part of Little Italy, but many of the Italian families moved out and young professionals moved in. The cute Nolita neighborhood has become a desired residential area for artists, models and actors. The neighborhood is filled with high-rated restaurants, trendy bars, fun boutiques, and amazing mom and pop Italian bakeries. While not visited on our tour, the area is perfect for walking to see all the charming boutiques and the lovely St. Patrick’s Old Cathedral.

TriBeCa

Next, visit TriBeCa (which stands for “Triangle Below Canal Street”) to see FDNY’s Hook and Ladder 8 that is most famous for being the headquarters of the Ghostbusters. It was also featured in the beginning of Hitch, when Hitch gives dating advice to a firefighter there. Later in the movie Hitch runs to a taxi to catch up with Allegra on her boat and tell her what a great guy Albert is.  As the camera rises, you can in fact see the Ghostbuster’s logo inside of Hook and Ladder 8.

Near Hook and Ladder 8 is “Millionaire Mile,” the unofficial nickname given to exclusive residential neighborhoods. Alex Hitchens lives at 25 N Moore Street, the former warehouse building on the northwest corner of N Moore Street and Varick. JFK Jr. and his wife, Carolyn Bisset, lived on the entire top floor of 20 N Moore Street just before they died; Edward Burns & Christy Turlington now live in their former residence.  Also in the building are Jay Mohr and Annie Leibovitz.  Others who live or have lived on the block include the Olsen Twins, Claudia Schiffer, Gina Gershon, Carol Alt, and Nathan Lane.
