On this ‘just-dandy’ tour, you’ll get whisked away to locations featured in the series, and you’ll learn about how modern-day New York City was disguised to make it appear as the 1950s. If you want to learn some ‘swell’ insider secrets about filming a period television series, this tour is for you.

So come step back in time to the nifty-fifties, home to the vivacious and lovable Miriam “Midge” Maisel. Cruise through Manhattan, see the sights, and get a first-hand look at where some of your favorite characters came to life!

About The Show:

At the start of the series, Mrs. Miriam “Midge” Maisel (Rachel Brosnahan) lives in the Upper West Side with her husband Joel (Michael Zegan) and two kids. As the series progresses, her life gets upended by her decision to pursue stand-up comedy, as she starts to explore downtown and perform in the West Village.

Midge lives in the same building as her parents Abe and Rose Weissman, played by Marin Hinkle and Tony Shalhoub. She also meets Susie Myerson (Alex Borstein) at the Gaslight Café, who eventually becomes her gig manager. Their work relationship blossoms into a friendship as the two work together to overcome hurdles they encounter when navigating a male-dominated industry.

The first season is shot almost entirely in New York, and the second season takes some of the characters to Paris and the Catskills. The third season of the show introduces several new characters as Midge begins touring the country, and the rest of the ensemble continues with life in NYC.

What Will You See On This Tour?

  • Book a gig at The Gaslight Cafe in the West Village, a coffeehouse-turned live music venue

  • Sip a cappuccino at Cafe Reggio, which started out as a barbershop run by Dominic Parisi

  • Swing by historic cafe City Spoon Diner, a retro Euro-American cafe in the West Village

  • Stroll through Washington Square Park, home to the famous arch

  • Play your favorite song at The Music Inn, home to vintage instruments and antique records

  • Indulge in black-and-white cookies and take a photo in front of Lutzi’s Butcher

  • See brand new locations from Season 4, including The Plaza, where Shy Baldwin’s wedding takes place; Cherry Lane Theatre, Carnegie Hall, and more!

Covid-19 Health and Safety Requirements:

All guests are required to wear a face mask for the entire duration of the tour, regardless of vaccination status.

Meeting Location:

TOUR STOPS & DETAILS

GRAMERCY

The first location on the tour is the swanky arts center where Joel introduces his parents to Midge and, well, a ring-a-ding-ding, Penny Pann! You’ll then head to the old-timey bar where Joel gets drinks with his friend Archie. You betcha it still looks like the 1950s inside!

NYU CAMPUS & BOWERY

Next, it’s time for a stroll in the park seen multiple times in the series. You might remember it best from the episode where Midge finds herself in the spotlight yet again at a protest against a proposed highway (that was almost built right through Manhattan). Rock around the clock and head to the Irish Bar where Midge and crew visit. In real life, they didn’t let dames in this bar until the 1970s!

GREENWICH VILLAGE

Taking it back to the pilot episode, you’ll visit the kosher butcher where Midge picks up black-and-white cookies and the lamb for her famous brisket. Now permanently closed, you’ll also see the main comedy club from the series, as well as an old café which was seen in Maisel as well as Mad Men and Inside Llewyn Davis. This was home to many poets and musicians while it was open.

GREENWICH VILLAGE (cont.)

Fancy some tunes? You’ll feel like you’re going into a time machine when you step into the music store, the very store where Midge gets the old “dirty” comedy records to listen to. Golly! You’ll then jump forward to the second season to see the cafe where Abe (Tony Shalhoub) meets with his lawyer. Yikes!

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Tour of NYC

On Location Tours is literally the best tour service in NYC. I went on the new Marvelous Mrs. Maisel tour and it wasn’t only a great way to see parts of the city I’ve never seen before, but I got to relive scenes from the show in person, and learned behind the scenes information that I wouldn’t have known otherwise. Not to mention the stories and history behind the actual locations. I can’t say enough good things about this experience. I can’t wait to come back and do another tour!
