THE ADJUSTMENT BUREAU

This 2011 thriller starts out with David Norris, a charismatic politician, meeting Elise Sellas, a talented ballet dancer. Little does he know, an enigmatic organization, the Adjustment Bureau, coordinates every detail of human life. However, David’s strong connection to Elise poses a threat to their grand plans. Directed by George Nolfi, this film explores the theme of chance vs destiny. Love is at stake when freewill is pitted against predestination. In the end, will this couple’s love persevere or will the bureau’s control on fate conquer all?

Matt Damon exceptionally plays the role of David Norris. His love interest, Elise Sellas, is acted out by Emily Blunt. The three main members of the Adjustment Bureau are Thompson, Richardson, and Harry. These parts are portrayed by Terence Stamp, John Slattery, and Anthony Mackie.

The movie was primarily filmed in New York:

  • The building at 51 Chambers Street and Centre Street in Manhattan served as the Mayor’s office.
  • The building at 1 Madison Avenue and East 24th Street served as David’s apartment.
  • When David gave his election speech, it was filmed at the Brooklyn Bridge Pier.
  • The scene where David tries to stop Elise from running away after they meet was filmed at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel. Also, the scenes where David practices for his speech in a hall and where he delivers it, were shot there.
  • The headquarters of the bureau were located at the New York Public Library.
  • Pivotal scenes were shot at the Statue of Liberty, as well.

  • Emily Blunt had to undergo extreme ballet training in order to execute the captivating dance scenes on screen.
  • In order to fully get into the role, Matt Damon met with real life politicians, Senator David Durenberger and Congressman Joe Crowley.
