ACROSS THE UNIVERSE

The 2007 musical/romance film includes songs of the Beatles and incorporates the musical message of romance, war and peace. The film includes a young British worker, Jude, who takes off to the United States in hopes to find his father. Jude ends up meeting Max, a college student, and his sister Lucy. Jude and Lucy end up falling for each other, but there is a problem with their relationship with social upheaval associated with the Vietnam War.

Jim Sturgess plays the role of Jude who then falls for Lucy who is played by Evan Rachel Wood. Lucy’s brother, Max, is played by Joe Anderson. Actress Teresa Victoria Carpio plays the role of Prudence who is best known for her performance of “I Want to Hold Your Hand” by the Beatles in the film.

The East Village neighborhood in Manhattan lies the home of Max (Joe Anderson) and Jude (Jim Sturgess). Filming also took place at the Museum of the City of New York in Manhattan. Some other spots in New York you can view in the film include Katz’s Deli on 205 E Houston St, Webster Hall on 125 E 11th St, as well as Rivington Street and Clinton Street.

The inspiration behind John Lennon’s “Dear Prudence” sign was based on Mia Farrow’s sister, Prudence, not wanting to leave where she was living in the quarters to live with other students. “Dear Prudence” also references Prudence’s fictional character not wanting to admit to her sexual orientation. Evan Rachel Wood and Jum Sturgess were informed that Ringo Starr was in town when the movie was released and he attended a screening and shared that he enjoyed the film.
