BLACK MASS

a street scene with focus on the side of a buildingBill (Benedict Cumberbatch) is a high up leader in the Massachusetts Senate, while his brother James “Whitey” Bulger (Johnny Depp) is a hoodlum pursing a life in crime in the 1970’a in the streets of South Boston. FBI agent John Connolly (Joel Edgerton) is a lawman who attempts to form an alliance with Whitey in order to take down the Italian mob, but this alliance get too out of control. Whitey takes it too far and gives himself so most power and becomes one of the most dangerous gangsters in history.

Black Mass was filmed in Boston at locations such as:

  • The streets of Essex St. and Highland St. in Chelsea, Massachusetts.
  • Whitey’s apartments where many bodies were found was in Quincy, Massachusetts.
  • Many scenes were seen being filmed in Dorchester.
  • Some of the scenes took place at Polish American Club which was suppose to be Whitey’s famous South Boston Hangout called West Broadway’s Triple O’s.

Some interesting facts about the film include, some of the murder scenes where shot in the location of the real life murders. Johnny Depp admitted that this was his favorite movie to ever film, and he admitted on Jimmy Kimmel in 2003 that he always watches his own movies, but did not want to watch this one until the director, Scott Cooper, told him he needed to.
