8 FAMOUS PEOPLE WHO CALL NEW YORK HOME
New York is a hell of a town, no one will deny that. But how great is it? So great that many celebrities have come out of the area and many more call the city home. Here is a list of some that reside everywhere from chic Downtown, to hip Brooklyn and everywhere in between.
Jay Z –This rapper has New York written all over him and weaved into his amazing rap lyrics. His name even comes from the J and Z trains that still run through the Marcy Projects in Brooklyn where he grew up. Now that those days are behind him, he and his superstar wife Beyonce and fabulously cool kid live in trendy Tribeca, in the same building with former New York Housewife Bethenny Frankel.
Alicia Keys – Born and raised in New York’s iconic Hell’s Kitchen, there is no denying that the “This Girl Is On Fire” singer was destined for greatness. Her SoHo penthouse reflects her “Empire State of Mind” with a keyed elevator, gourmet kitchen, media room, five bedrooms, four bathrooms and four powder rooms.
Anderson Cooper – Journalist and son of New York legend Gloria Vanderbilt, Anderson Cooper currently resides in the West Village with longtime boyfriend Benjamin Maisani in a converted Firehouse he bought for a reported $4.3 Million dollars. His neighbors include Andy Samberg and Anna Wintour.
Sarah Jessica Parker – One of the many reasons young women move to New York City is because they have been inspired by SJP’s Sex and the City persona, Carrie Bradshaw. She has also made New York her home, taking residence in a 5th Avenue townhome with husband Matthew Broderick and three children. The house is five- floors and features a double parlor with 12 foot ceilings, something Carrie would no doubt envy for all the shoes it could hold!
Lady Gaga – The “Born This Way” singer has said that most of her music is inspired by New York City. Originally raised on Manhattan’s Upper West Side attending schools with the likes of Nicky Hilton, she opted for a more gritty and artistic scene in New York’s Lower East Side while attending New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts and looking to be noticed for her music. Now that she’s a mega star that’s traveled the world, she still longs for the comfort of the city. It’s been reported that she recently leased a penthouse apartment near Central Park South with two huge bedrooms, a granite chef’s kitchen, a wood-burning fireplace, a big marble bathroom and a gorgeous view of nearby Central Park.
Patrick Stewart – Best known for his role as Captain Jean Luc Picard on the long running hit TV series Star Trek: The Next Generation, Patrick Stewart joined many who belong to the millennial generation by making a “trek” to Brooklyn. His Park Slope pad is a duplex penthouse with lots of outdoor space thanks to the unit’s private 1,200 square foot rooftop terrace. It also boasts a wood burning fireplace, laundry room chef’s kitchen and master suite with balcony.
Alec Baldwin –Is quite the troublemaker, frequently caught threatening reporters and photographers near his NYC home. He famously takes residence in Devonshire House, a Greenwich Village prewar building. At least he’s only a hop skip and jump from 30 Rock.
Mariah Carey – Originally from Long Island, this multi- platinum artist now calls Manhattan home. She has famously shown the world her amazing triplex (dwelling consisting of three units) located in Tribeca on an episode of MTV cribs, which is the most watched and replayed episode for the networks series. Modeled after an Art Deco style by interior designer Mario Buatta, the home features a screening room, a full dining hall and a lavish dressing suite to accommodate the singers many shoes and evening gowns. She resides with husband Nick Cannon and children Morocco and Monroe.
