Birdman tells the story of a has-been actor famous for playing an iconic superhero, and his attempt to revive his career by mounting a Broadway play. Michael Keaton, coincidentally considered one of the best reincarnations of Batman, stars. Edward Norton, Emma Stone, Naomi Watts, and Zach Galifanakis round out the cast. Birdman was shot largely at the St. James Theater (246 W 44th St), in its dressing rooms, lobby, orchestra seats, and on the stage itself. Here at On Location Tours, we’re all about exterior film shoots that take place right here on the streets of New York City.  It’s always thrilling to pass by a production shoot.  You never know which famous actors or directors you might see.  We live for the “lights, camera, and action!”  That being said, we couldn’t pass up the chance to get a behind-the-scenes peek into the world of studio filming.  This past Sunday, Kaufman Astoria Studios opened their backlot to the public.  We were treated to stunt performances and were able to look into actor’s trailers.  Check out some of the photos Georgette Blau, On Location Tours owner, took at the “New York on Location” event. How the Rockefeller Center Tree Became a New York City Icon

On December 4, thousands will gather around the Rockefeller Center Tree to witness the twinkling lights blink on, while millions more will crowd around television sets worldwide to see the event.The tree lights up midtown Manhattan and serves as a glowing beacon of the Christmas spirit. But its Depression-era birth turns out to be far more humble. On Christmas Eve in 1931, construction workers put up a tiny, 20-foot balsam fir on the meek and mucky site of what would soon become Rockefeller Center. Turner Classic Movies (TCM) kicks off its 20th anniversary celebration by joining forces with Macy’s to bring the holiday spirit to New York with a special screening of the Christmas classic Miracle on 34th Street (1947).
